IRENA WAGNER

July 3, 1925 – May 10, 2024

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Irena, who peacefully passed away at the age 98 on May 10, 2024 with her family by her side.

Irena is survived by her daughters Alice (John) Maksymowicz and Eva (John) Karpyza, grandchildren Greg (Marla), Anet (Dave), Jessica (Chad), and Alex (Lisa), as well as ten great grandchildren. She is also mourned by her sister Katarzyna and brother Jozef in Poland, niece Eva and nephew Zbyszek in Canada, and numerous other nieces and nephews both near and far.

Irena is predeceased by her husband Damazy, infant son Peter, as well as her parents and siblings in Poland and Canada. Irena's journey began in Poland as one of thirteen children. Despite enduring the hardships of war in her youth, she carried the resilience of her childhood into her adult life, always finding joy in her family.

In 1965 Irena and Damazy, with their two daughters, immigrated to Canada. Irena worked hard as a seamstress in many factories, but happily retired to spend more time with her grandchildren, providing much support in raising them. She often said that those were her best years.

Mom was happiest when the entire family was together. Holidays and celebrations were always special in her home. Mom loved to cook and bake for her family, finding joy in providing delicious food for all of us, and making sure we all went back for seconds.

We love you mom, Babcia and Prababcia. You will be in our hearts always.

The family would like to thank the staff (In Irene’s words “all the nice ladies”) at Irene Baron Eden Centre and River East Personal Care Home for providing kindness and care to Irena.

Rosary will be said on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 9:30 am followed by the celebration of mass at 10:00 am at Holy Ghost Church 341 Selkirk Ave. Cropo Funeral Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
