Nov 09, 1937 - July 28, 2023

Ted was predeceased by his parents, Regina and Hendrikus, sisters Riek and Willy, brothers Gerry and Martin.

He will always be remembered and loved by his wife Cecile and children, Ed (Deanna), Sandra (Thomas), Jack (Lesley), Diane (Jacques), grandchildren, Shayl (Angela) and Jackson, Max and Ben, Camryn and Danielle, and Thea and Trinity.

Also remembering Ted are his siblings and in-laws, Greta, (Noelline), Hank (Mia), Tina, Helen, John (Anne-Marie), (Baiba) and many nieces and nephews. The Traa, Van de Pol, and Kamp families and friends in the Netherlands will also have Ted in their memories.

Ted was born in Achterveld Holland with a sparkle in his eye, on Nov 9, 1937, the 6 of 10 children. They had a small acreage with cows, horses, pigs, chickens, and huge gardens to feed the large family. They also had sheltered 2 Jewish boys (Rolf and Nico) during the second World War.

The Traa family immigrated to Canada in 1954 and worked learning a new language. Ted worked on the farm and in a short time all the animals understood Dutch. He moved on from there to work at Geco Mines in Manitouwadge, Ontario, for 6 years. With a mining certificate under his belt and lots of new friends, Ted came back to Winnipeg and did long haul trucking, coast to coast (with Mike Slegers) with North American Van Lines.

Ted married Cecile on April 25th, 1964. They bought a bakery and moved to Gladstone, Mb January 1st 1966, they raised their 4 children there over the next 27 years. The Gladstone Bakery was home to many great adventures. School teachers regularly phoned the bakery looking for students playing hooky.

They moved to Beausejour Mb and farmed another 10 years as a cattle farmer. They retired to Salmon Arm BC in 2003, where Ted was a member of the Knights of Columbus and had great fun putting on pancake breakfasts. He also loved dancing till closing time at the 5th Ave Senior Center. In 2022 they left behind loving friends and cherished memories to move to Winnipeg Manitoba to the Seine River Retirement Center. Later on Ted moved to Simkin Center when he became ill and passed on July 28, 2023.

Cecile and family would like to thank the staff at Simkin Center for the wonderful care that Ted received and the love and attention of the staff. He had a smile for them always.
