Uncle Richard taught me two things in life.....years ago, he had asked me to help him spread some gravel at his family cottage. I don't remember if it was arranged as a payment, but, after 4 hours of fairly difficult work, Richard offered me an old fridge that he had in storage as "payment". The fridge turned out to be an old "Philco", the sort that weighs in the neighborhood of 300 lbs!. So, having no truck, I push/pulled/dragged that behemoth up the hill to my site at WH Lake....every year, I thought to myself "this year it won't work", But every year, I dragged it to my site (he was kind enough to store it for me) and every year, I'd plug it in and it would chug back to life, Then one year, I had had enough...I would drag it no more, even knowing, full well that it would likely run forever, I threw that "Philco" away and got a lighter one....Now to the point....I've gone now through 3 fridges since that "Philco" and although it was impossibly heavy, I miss it. When dragging it up the hill, I would curse Richard and this damn heavy fridge, but, now that its gone, I miss it.....Richard taught me two things, in his life, and in his passing....Perhaps holding onto those things, that last forever, is worth the burden, and his message in the end is that some things simply don't last forever and we should all put more value on the times and opportunities presented, hold on to all of them, as long as you can.
