Obituary of RAYMOND MICHAEL KOSTER
RAYMOND KOSTER
1951 - 2020
It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Raymond Michael Koster.
Left to mourn his passing are his brother Dennis Koster (Orysia), his cousins Bill Koster (Karen), Tom Koster(Gail), and Andrew Koster and their families, and his aunt Donna Tone and family in Vancouver. He was pre-deceased by his parents Michael & Jean Koster.
Ray was born on August 2, 1951, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He went to King Edward Elementary School, (1-6), Isaac Newton Junior High, (7-9), and St. John’s High School, (10-12).
Ray loved to travel, as a young man he travelled with his good friends Gary & Alexandra Moulder all over
Canada & the U.S., Hawaii & Bahamas. This trend he continued through his adulthood. He even took a road trip with his brother Dennis & his wife Orysia to Minneapolis, MN. To the US Open Golf Tournament in 2002.
Ray followed in his father’s footsteps and became a movie projectionist by profession. He worked in several of Winnipeg’s movie theaters, NorthStar, Grant Park, Odeon & North Main Drive Inn’s.
In the mid 1980’s, Ray took advantage of a rare opportunity, and purchased the Hyland Theater (Lansdowne & Main), in Winnipeg’s North End, where he grew up to become a local theater owner. Here he gave the citizens of Winnipeg’s North End a chance to watch good quality movies without having to go down town to watch a good movie.
During this time Ray developed a friendship with Archie Simadonus, the owner of Santa Lucia Pizza. Between Ray & Archie they would help each other out.
Ray was a man with a kind soul, & a big heart. He would always think of someone else before himself. Always willing to help, you just had to ask. Always the first one to offer to clean up, or wash the dishes at any given party. Many a friend got to see movies for free at the Grant Park theater where Ray worked as a projectionist.
I know there were times that perhaps he felt that his friends & acquaintances took him for granted. Not so my friend, you will be sadly missed by your friends & family. You are now in a better place. Rest in Peace my friend & brother.
A private funeral will be held and interment will be held and interment will be held at Holy Ghost Cemetery.
Memorial Donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
