Ray was my cousin, on my father's side.
My memories of Ray are of a very friendly guy, who always had a smile. I never saw signs of discouragement nor frustration, although we all have these periods in our life.
We played a lot as kids because our families were so very close. I recall a mischievous little guy ( I had met my match!!) and we had a blast playing together. I have to dig our those pictures......
As we grew up, and our parents passed, we saw less and less of each other. But we would run into each other from time to time, especially at the Hyland and around town. One time, when he was working at the Grant Park Cinemas, he let me, my soon to be life partner and host of the TV series we were making into the side door.
What's a little larceny when it's family, right.
Dennis and Orysia, I am sorry for your loss. He should have lived to a ripe old age. This was too soon.

Raymond Koster. A gentle soul, gone too soon. I have fond memories of you taking me to the theatre, and allowing me to watch any movie playing. You always had a smile, and were quick with a joke. We would greet each other with the word “Goomba” followed by a huge smile. No matter the mood in the room, Raymond would light up the room with a smile. My trips to Winnipeg were not complete without some time with Ray. A gentle giant who would give the shirt off his back to anyone. Rest easy my friend, as you will be greatly missed. Wherever you are, we know everyone will be smiling. Rest in paradise my friend.

sincere condolences to Dennis and Orysia Koster. Like the butterflies of this earth, Ray burst out of Earth's cocoon before us...and is now a beautiful butterfly.....in God's garden. A metaphor for a life well lived.... his soul now at peace and painless. may you always enjoy the good memories you all shared. love Marusia and Grant xx

My heart felt condolences to Rays family and friends on his passing. About 50 years ago now I was a little boy growing up at 827 College Avenue in Winnipeg. As with most little boys and girls, life had it's share insecurities and uncertainties. For me however, there was one thing that could be counted on without fail. That is the smile on my face when Ray came over to my house. Ray always had a huge smile in return for me. Always acknowledged me with a friendly "Hi John", while looking nowhere but right at me with those friendly eyes and his genuine heart. Occasionally Ray came with a treat for me, and without fail that treat came with a friendly conversation during which I had his undivided attention. 10 year old boys never get that from an adult unless they're in trouble! I was special.
Now that I'm more or less grown up, occasionally I like to look back and consider the influencers of my life. I like to think that I carried forward into my adult years a small measure of the kindness, the patience, and the thoughtfulness showed to me by Ray in those early years. How such innocuous little gestures can mean so very much to a little boy. For that and more Ray, I am eternally grateful.
Ray some day we'll meet again. We'll pick up again on those talks about my school, friends, and everything else. But Ray, one other thing....when we do meet again, please bring that sweet white car you had. You can take me for a ride in it again. Yes we'll even take it through that super cool automatic car wash again, just for old times sake. Ray this time I promise, I'll remember to close my window. :) Love you always Ray.

I'm saddened to hear of Ray's passing. Ray was a film projectionist at Famous Players when I was working there in the late 80s/early 90s. We would sometimes bump into each other at the theatres years afterwards, and it was always good to see him and catch up. Ray had a great sense of humour, a hearty laugh, and was a genuinely kind person. Condolences to his family.
