EDWIN SMITH

Obituary of EDWIN RICHARD SMITH

EDWIN RICHARD SMITH 1936-2020 In their 60th year of marriage, on Aug 17, Edwin passed away peacefully with his loving wife Patricia by his side. Edwin was the 11th of 14 children born to John and Florence in Winnipeg. A truck driver and father of 6, Edwin also leaves to mourn Veronica (Joe Rowson), Jess (Joanne), Lincoln (Shannon), Brett (Lisa), Tracy (Don Baker) & Ryan (Laura Genaille). 20 Grandchildren: Mitchell, Derek, Jared Rowson & Leanna (Aaron Pigorsch), Tricia, Clayton & Dayna, Tanner & Madison, Brendan, Daniel, Karleen & Matthew, Evanjeline & Calahan Smith-Baker, Dylan (predeceased 2018), Ethan, Bridget, Ryanna and Rylynn. Great-Grandchildren: Keila & Coda (Mitch and Chrissy Rowson), and Lily (Tricia Smith). Dad had 6 brothers: John, Joseph(Raymond), Bernard, Oliver(Ollie), Robert(Bob) and William(Stu). He had 7 sisters: Margaret, Jesse, Elizabeth(Lizzie), Ruby, Joyce, Shirley and Winnifred(Freddie). Also, several nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. Dad was a hard-working man, providing for his family. He drove a truck for: Reliable Transfer, Security Storage, Consolidated FastFrate Inc., Granny’s Poultry. EMCO & Siltex. In the earlier years, he’d sometimes come home for lunch and would take one or two of us kids out for a ride in his truck. Surrounded by his large family, we grew up listening to Aunts and Uncles play their guitars as we listened to their amazing voices with beautiful harmonies. So many fond memories and joyful stories being told with their infectious laughter and humorous wit. When we lived in a 2-story, 3 bedroom house, there were 6 kids, a dog and 2 cats. Yet, Dad (and Mom) would always make room when other family were in need of a place to stay. A cousin once said, “Listen to the song Four-0-Thirty-Three by George Jones and you’ll think of Uncle Ed”. So have a good cup of tea, or a cold beer, and pay tribute to our Dad/Grandpa/Uncle Ed, the man we all loved so dear. Special thanks to all staff at Luther Home for taking such great care of Dad. He was only there from January ‘til August, but we appreciate how you looked after him when he could no longer be at home with Mom. A celebration of life is on hold until further notice. Cremation will commence with Cropo Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please share your condolences or a special memory.
