To Auntie Pat, Veronica, Jess, Lincoln, Brett Tracy and Ryan…please know that all of the family share in your loss. It’s impossible to pick one memory out of a lifetime of having an uncle such as Edwin Richard Smith. Son, brother, husband, son-in-law, brother-in-law, father, grand and great grandfather and to myself and so many of my cousins, Uncle and Great Uncle Ed...the best man we ever knew and by whom all others were measured. He was truly a “family man” who looked out for and after all of us. Every one of us loved and respected him. I will remember always the laughter we shared…and the music… cribbage tournaments that lasted into the wee hours, the beach trips, mended bicycles, Doublemint Gum shared as he parked his semi on Burns Street, heading inside for lunch...all the Christmas Eves...to this day, years and miles apart, my heart travels back to those times and I feel truly blessed and forever grateful to have had Uncle Edwin in my life.

If every family had an Edwin, the world would be a much better, safer, happier place. He was quiet, yet strong, humble but proud of his family. Everyone, young and old, loved hanging out with him because he was such good fun. There are some people you wish could go on forever and Uncle Ed was one of them. He was a truly beautiful soul. Love you more.

If every family had an Edwin, the world would be a much better place. Everyone would then experience the warmth and love of a genuinely good man. Ed just made you want to be a better person. He related to all ages and everyone, young and old, just wanted to hang with him. He was our caregiver when we were small, he took us to the park with a bat and ball and taught us to play 'work your way up'. He fixed our bikes and fed us when we were hungry. And always he made us laugh. When he was married with his own kids, there was always room in his house for any of us who came to visit. His wife, Pat, was really good about the chaos we caused. She understood that when she chose Ed, the rest of us came as a package deal. When my brothers came down from Churchill, Ed was the first person they wanted to see. My Mum was his oldest sister and when she came down from up north, we'd go to the horse races. It wasn't any fun unless Ed came with us. There are some people in your life you wish could go on forever and Ed was one of them. There are so many of us cousins whose lives he touched and what a Legacy of wonderful memories he left to each of us! Thank you for everything you did for us Ed. Love to you, Ed and love to Pat, Veronica, Lincoln, Jess, Ryan, Tracy and Brett, Grandkids and Great Grandkids P.S. Hope you've met Hank Williams and George Jones. Rae, Ted, Holly. Janice and Gordon and families.

Words can’t describe how sorry I am at this loss. You’re family is in my prayers as you grieve this loss.
- I have such precious memories of my uncle Edwin. he was like a second dad to us growing up. I’ve will always remembered the good times and the lessons he taught me. He made a big impact on so many of our lives He was such a creative guy (drawing pictures for us, playing baseball with us kids or making us a tire swing). He had an awesome sense of humor (cutting out articles or pictures from the paper to share or telling jokes & stories). He was caring generous person (taking us kids to Grand Beach, buying us ice-cream from the Ice-cream Truck at Logan Park, driving us to school concerts, not to mention how many times he moved us, or put up our storm windows, or hooked up our stove, or saved my mom from my dads fist)
Even as I’m shedding tears for your loss, I’m honored to remember one of the best Uncles I ever known.

One of my favorite memories as a kid - Grandpa shovelling the snow and I tapped on the glass, camera in hand. Of course he struck this pose! Always made everyone laugh. I'll never forget my summers playing crib, listening to the radio and watching Wheel of Fortune with him.

My uncle Ed was a very special man. Honest, hard working, generous and a true gentleman. I don't know if he ever knew what he meant to all of us. He always helped when times were lean. I can't imagine having 13 brothers and sisters and always seeming to be able to help out, even though he had 6 kids of his own.
I'll always remember his laugh and his sense of humor.
As I grew up and became a parent myself I always thought about him. He was my role model. I tried to fashion myself after him.
Growing up I always thought my cousins Veronica Smith RowsonJess, Lincoln, Brett Smith, Tracy and Ryan were the luckiest kids in the world having my Uncle Ed as a father.
The truth of the matter is, they were.
We were all so lucky to know him.
They don't make them like my uncle Ed anymore.
I'll always be so thankful to have known him.
Without even trying he set the standard for being a good and honest man.
I'm not sure what my life would have looked like without knowing him.
I hope they're all up there with guitars in hand now that they're all together again.
