Obituary of ROSE BILAN
ROSE BILAN
It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Rose Bilan passed away in Winnipeg on January 16, 2019. She died peacefully surrounded by her entire immediate family.
She will be profoundly missed by her daughter Noel and son Bob and by her three granddaughters Andrea (Wes), Heidi (Dave) and Anna (Maurice). Her loss is also mourned by her many friends and other family members, including her six great grandchildren.
Rose's passing was preceded by that of her parents, George and Dora Marian, her partner of thirty-five years, Lou Kalata, her sisters Anne and Mary and her brothers John and Steve.
Rose was born in Winnipeg on March 24, 1921 and lived her entire life in the city that she loved. She graduated from Saint John's High School and after having various jobs – including running a restaurant - she went to work at Air Canada and remained there for twenty-nine years. Working at Air Canada gave Rose the opportunity to travel the world and she took full advantage of the opportunity. Retiring at age sixty she got to enjoy a long and full retired life.
Rose was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt and valued nothing more than time spent with family and friends. Social to her core Rose continued to make new friends throughout her life. All who knew her were taken by her generosity and lifted up by her constant support.
As well as her love for travel Rose enjoyed cooking - her perogies were legendary - reading, sewing and knitting. And, oh yes, the slot machines. Her ninety-seven years were rich and full and throughout her life she definitely was one " who did not go gently into that good night/ But raged, raged against the dying of the light".
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. All are invited to attend to celebrate Rose's life.
