In Los Angeles, at a S.T.A.G.E. benefit concert, he gave one of the most moving and beautiful performances I've ever witnessed. "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" sung acapella with 2 other performers joining him harmonizing. It was amazing and I'll never forget it.

It is impossible to say enough about the contributions he made. he lived on salt spring island for 2 years and in that time gifted the people with Damien, Holodomor, A Child's Christmas in Wales, and two plays that he had written about the first bishop of Victoria and St. Eugene de Mazenod. He brought the Eastern rite Mass, Molebens to the Mother of God, Eastern rite Stations of the Cross, and was full of life and the desire to share it with others. He taught us to sing, to elocute, and introduced music of fine artists to those who hungered for it. His ability to create simple and striking displays was phenomenal - like a sixth sense. He wasn't afraid to share his hopes and dreams with others, and the joys and disappointments he had in each of those. He taught a woman Lasia from Richmond to sing the liturgy, and I have never heard anything so beautiful in my life as the harmonies of the prayer they presented. God rest your soul, Father Edward. You were one of the most beautiful gifts God has given us.

My sincere condolences to the family. It’s very sad...
I was blessed to meet Fr. Evanko at UCU in Lviv, in 2006. With my son Misio, we attended one of his special and moving performances about Holodomor. I also have one of his first recordings of Ukrainian songs, which I will always treasure.
Вічная і світлая пам`ять! Зі святими упокой, Христе...

I met Father Ed in the early 1980’s in New York City. It was in a Hungarian coffee shop called the Eclair (!) on West 72nd street. We were sitting next to each other and I had seen him in many of his Broadway and concert appearances and told him so. That casual meeting turned into a long friendship that endured through Ed’s move to Los Angeles, his years of studying for the priesthood, and all of his appointments at various parishes around Canada. I last saw him in the flesh when he came to New York as one of the lead soloists in a new accapella musical setting of the Ukrainian Mass. It was in the glorious Ukrainian Church on Second Avenue and Ed was so honored to be singing there. I think he was never happier than when he was singing. It brought him such joy. A joy that he instilled in all who came to hear him. He was a kind, caring, compassionate man.. With a huge heart and an equally huge laugh. I will miss that laugh. Rest In Peace, my dear friend.

We are saddened to hear this news. Though I met Fr. Ed only on a few family events, he made such an indelible memory that I will forever treasure and I am blessed to have known him. The song he sang at my wedding still echoes, it reminds me of him whenever I hear the song from Fiddler on the roof. Truly and amazing talent and passionate man. Liz and I sincerely express our high respect and sympathy to his family.

My mother Evelyne Anderson Lamont and Father Edward were great friends for over fifty years. They performed together many times and kept in contact no matter where Father Edward's career took him. Our family has many warm memories of his talent and human warmth. It was always a pleasure to see him and catch up, hear of his travels and adventures. We are sorry for the turn in his health two years ago, and I hope he is now at peace. The Lamont family would like to send our condolences and love to "Eddie's" family at this difficult time.

A very lovely and gracious human being whom it was my delight to get to know when our time at MASI in Ottawa overlapped from 2003-05. After moving to Indiana, I invited him to Ft. Wayne to the University of Saint Francis where he performed his one-man play about St. Damian of Molokai, which greatly edified a large crowd. We ran into each other again in the Ottawa airport in May 2015 when he was his old and charming self and we had a lovely time getting caught up. And now we pray for his soul, and for his memory to be eternal. Vichnya pamjat!

Father Edward was a sincere and loving friend. An accomplished actor, singer who decided, late in his life, to offer his services to God. In this work he was truly committed and achieved great things prior to his sudden and cruel illness. I was a friend of his for 45 years and will cherish his memory with great affection.
