Obituary of LES BROWN

LES BROWN

Courageously, facing the unknown our beloved husband, father and grandpa has taken his last call on February 15, 2018. Les Brown fought his last battle with cancer. He was 71 years old.

Les grew up in the north end where he played hockey and football at Sisler High. His first job was with the City of Winnipeg, Engineers. In 1971 he joined the Winnipeg Fire Dept. and worked his way up the ladder becoming a firefighter, first responder, training officer, asst. director of training and then safety and equipment officer, earning the title of Asst. Deputy Chief Sr. Firefighter. His 20 year exemplary service earned him his bar and medal. His 40 year medal and double bars were worn with pride. Les trained hundreds of firefighters and his knowledge of positions served was extensive. After 45 years 9 months (42 years in fire dept.) of service he retired at age 65,  he was presented a gold watch.

In his spare time he coached hockey, from the very young up to junior including the Vics as well as the Rangers. He also coached the Hawkeyes football team. In between he became a Mason and then a Shriner.

Les was very much a family man and was always there for his family. He was so very proud of his children and grandchildren. He supported them in their ventures. He loved travelling all over the USA on family vacations and being a snowbird with his wife.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Marilyn; daughter Marnie (Norm) grandson Colton; son Lester (Jen) grandchildren Alexis, Logan, Cassandra, Madison; two sisters Myrna Ferenc (Jerry) and family, Valerie Lavallee and family; also his aunt Margaret and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Jack Brown; uncles Eddie and Harold Brown.
