Obituary of ELIZABETH (BETTY) HEIDINGER

ELIZABETH (BETTY) HEIDINGER (Magura) It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we wish to announce the sudden passing of Betty Heidinger on November 19, 2016. Betty is survived by her husband Arthur Heidinger, her daughter Melanie Bilenky and two granddaughters Kendall and Chloe; brother Rudy (Judy) Magura; brother Herb (Heather) Magura; sister-in-law Marjorie Magura; brother & sister-in-law Hugo (Lydia) Heidinger; sister-in-law Lena Masi as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was predeceased by her parents Michael & Antonia Magura, her brother Bernie Magura, mother-in-law Elisabeth Heidinger and niece Cynthia Robinson. Betty was born August 16, 1951 in Beausejour and grew up on the family farm in Hazelridge. She was a baby sister to her 3 big brothers (her Bros) as she liked to call them. Her Bros adored her and she them – a bond that lasted her entire lifetime. It was at a country dance she met Arthur Heidinger – it was love at first sight – and they were married June 6, 1970 in Winnipeg where they made their home. In 1976 Betty had her one and only daughter Melanie. From that point on her life’s focus was to be a loving caregiver and a hard working role model. She proved a woman could do it all! Betty was employed for 27 years with Red River College retiring in 2006. She enjoyed many lasting friendships with her former colleagues and kept in touch with many of them. After retirement Betty moved on to her most rewarding role as a grandmother. Her granddaughters were her pride and joy. Tea parties, colouring and walks to the park were what filled many of her days. Betty would go to the moon and back to put a smile on her girl’s faces. Family was very important to Betty and over the years she kept close contact with her Bros and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. She enjoyed hearing about their lives and often entertained large family celebrations in her home. Betty was the center of her Family and the most generous, giving person. Always thinking about others first, even giving the most generous gift of all on her very last day (the gift of life). We will all dearly miss her smiling face, her warm hugs and comforting words. The family wishes to thank the ICU team at the St. Boniface Asper Institute and the Transplant Manitoba team for their kind and compassionate care. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Alphonsus School 343 Munroe Ave, Winnipeg, MB R2K 1H2, 204-667-6271.
