Obituary of KLAUS HARALD PHILIPP

Klaus Harald Philipp (February 17, 1937-February 27, 2014) With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Klaus Philipp on February 27, 2014 at the age of 77. Klaus was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, sisters Christel and Monika, and his wife of 34yrs, Ingrid. He will be forever remembered by his partner/best friend Shirley Payment, his sister Ingrid Lux (Siggy), nephew Olaf (Wendy), niece Astrid (Witholt), as well as many other family and friends. Born in Wolfsdorf Danzig, Germany in 1937, Klaus immigrated to Canada at the age of 18. He worked during the day and learned English at night during those first years in Winnipeg. Klaus went on to graduate in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science from the United College (U of W), and later earned his Master's from the University of Manitoba in 1978. He enjoyed a long and illustrious career - spanning 32 years - as an Instructor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Winnipeg, before retiring in 1999. Klaus found joy in music, and was an avid fan of the Olympics, soccer, curling, hockey, and football. He was very fond of travelling, gardening, and cars. Some of his happiest memories were of his time spent at his cherished “Green Jewel,” the cottage at Victoria Beach. A Celebration of Life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at 11:00am Thursday, March 6th. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to “The Philipp Scholarship” that will be established soon at the U of W, 515 Portage Ave, R3B 2E9, or to an educational charity of choice.
