You have so many wonderful memories of John & his greeting with coffee pot when you entered the restaurant will always stay in the minds of his thousands of customers over the years. Our memories & telling of stories with family & friends will always keep our loved ones alive in our minds & eventually the pain isn't as great. He was such a quiet, kindly man & we thought he'd always be there. God Bless.

Our memory of those great Sunday breakfasts will always be with us. The welcoming feeling and Nick's friendliness are unforgettable. We have always made a point of returning to Nick's for a meal each time we were visiting Winnipeg. What a great place! Our sincere condolences to the Cholakis family.

We will miss his smiling face. One of the main reasons we frequented Nicks Inn was because of the friendly, family feeling place it is. Our heartfelt sympathy for the family, friends, and staff. May he rest in peace.

While having moved from Wpg. 20 yrs. ago, I had been going to Nick's since I was 6 and my Dad was friends with him. Even after my Dad died in 1993, I made a point of going there for lunch every time I was visiting Wpg. ...and I'm in Wpg. 5-6 times a year. Rest in peace John. THE KOFFMAN FAMILY

We were so sorry to see Mr. Cholakis' obituary in the paper this week. We always enjoyed our visits to Nick's Inn in Headingly due in part to the unending cups of coffee proffered by John and his standing joke of placing the bill in front of the woman. Our condolences to the family.

In 1976, I bugged John and Jim for a job. One day, Jim said, 'Come in on Saturday', and I worked at Nick's for three years, washing dishes. John and Harriet were always good to me. They would feed you; it was great. John rarely sat down, and rarely took time off..always walking with the coffee pot, making the rounds, tie tucked in; sleeves rolled up. That Buick he drove..it was HUGE; a big burgundy 4 door. You would see him come in with Harriett and his mother Ya-Ya, who incidently taught me the fine art of dishwashing; a woman in her eighties who refused to stay at home! John gave a lot of us local kids a chance at a job, and I will always be thankful for that. Now, I fly airliners for a living, based in Vancouver. When I work with a crew from Winnipeg, I always ask if they've been to Headingley. When I mention I used to work at Nick's, they all say, 'Oh I've been there!'. John made Nick's a local cultural phenomenon, where people would drive out from Winnipeg and beyond just to eat there and have John top up their coffee and tell a joke. He also taught a lot of us a thing or two about work ethic. I had a lot of great memories working there; it was a great start for a young kid. John will truly be missed by many. My condolences to Harriett and family..Shawn Park
