GINO ROMAGNOLI

Obituary of GINO ROMAGNOLI

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Gino, much loved husband of Cathy Ratuski, father of Carina (Scott) and Bryce (Brooke), and Nonno of Scarlett. Gino passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre after a five year battle with glioblastoma.

Gino was predeceased by his mother Elisa and his uncle Joe Aimola. He is survived by his father Mario, Lori, Don and Barb Romagnoli, his aunt Anne, Serge and Rob Aimola and their families, as well as relatives in Italy and Australia. Gino will be sadly missed by his mother-in-law Darcia, sister-in-law Arlene, brother-in-law Al, nieces Alexandra and Aynsley and their families, and his many dear friends.

Gino was born and raised in Winnipeg. After graduating from West Kildonan Collegiate, he earned his Certified General Accountant designation. Gino had the privilege of working at Shelter Canadian Properties Limited for his entire career. Throughout his time there, he was not only able to embrace a variety of roles but also had many rewarding experiences that enriched both his personal and professional life. Gino had the opportunity to collaborate with many different people and build lasting friendships and relationships.

Gino and Cathy were introduced on the sandy shores of Grand Beach more than 40 years ago. They spent 39 years of marriage as partners and as the best of friends, always by each other’s side through life’s adventures, joys, and challenges. Together they raised two wonderful children, Carina and Bryce, of whom they are both very proud. Gino was their biggest fan and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. Whether it was hockey, baseball, Ukrainian dance, band concerts, piano recitals, or academic achievements, Gino was there.

Becoming a Nonno to Scarlett was one of Gino’s greatest joys, and he adored every moment spent with her. The bond they shared was filled with love and Gino treasured his time with Scarlett, watching her grow.

Gino always loved playing sports, especially baseball and hockey. He was passionate about playing hockey and there was nothing better than a late night game with the North End Hockey Club followed by a cold beverage or two. To many he was Coach Gino, having coached many of Bryce’s baseball and hockey teams, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm. He always looked forward to spending time with friends and family, having adventures, telling stories, and just enjoying the company of others. Gino greeted everyone with a genuine smile. His warm and infectious personality left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the many friendships he built over his life.

Gino faced his health challenges with remarkable strength and courage, and we know that the time we had with him for the past five years was truly a gift. Together, with our close family and friends, we continued to make many memories that we will always cherish. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who stood by us with unwavering support during this entire time.

In keeping with Gino’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A service to honour Gino will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10:00 am at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
