Obituary of SHIRLEY CLARA TOMCHUK
Peacefully my mom Shirley passed away at Riverview Health Center on November 3rd. She will be sadly missed by her son, James (Angie). Also, grandchildren Ryan (Dana), Kyle (Stacey), Leanne, Jay (Jamie), Jordan and Travis (Leslie), Lisa, and Bonnie. Great grandchildren, Ethan, Hayden, Lara, Lleyton, Laiklyn and Logan. Her sisters, Deanie, Carol (John), Margaret and brothers, Gary (Rose), Larry, Robert (Bev) and Dennis. Son in law Barrie and daughter in law Shirley. Also, all the generations of nieces and nephews whom she always made feel special. She was predeceased by her husband Frank, son John and daughter Cathy.
Shirley was loved by so many people and lovingly touched the lives of everyone she knew. She was so proud of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed her nightly phone calls from Jordan where she would listen proudly to his music practices over the phone or the events of his day.
Her life was challenging for the past years living with Parkinson's disease, but she always kept a positive attitude. I think her greatest joy was giving. Everyone who visited with her had to take something home with them either from her gift drawer or her goodie drawer. She loved music especially Elvis and all her grand pets. She had many dogs in her life and brought her old Chiefy back from the Yukon to live with her and James in Winnipeg. She very much enjoyed watching sports on tv, especially the Winnipeg Jets and soccer. She was a fantastic cook and loved to entertain so no one ever left her home hungry. Again, always giving even though she did not have much, but her heart was huge.
As the eldest of 14 children, she was always the go to person for each of them. My mom lived a full life. Her love for fashion made her jobs at Fairweather's and Pennington's enjoyable and taught everyone how to hang their clothes up properly. She travelled a lot even though she was always so nervous. Living in the Yukon for many years her trips home were full of gifts and fun. She would stop in Saskatoon to spend time with John, Shirley and family to spoil them. Then off to Winnipeg to see everyone there. She would spend the weekdays at James' and weekends at Cathy's to establish a relationship with her growing grandchildren. Then off to the wholesaler to get candy and chocolate bars before she headed to Hudson, Ont. to visit her mum and families.
Mom was a very spiritual person and loved going to the Riverview Chapel or her weekly visits with the spiritual advisor. Every night she recited Lo I am With You Always (Matthew 28:20).
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at CD4 at Riverview Health Center for their care and compassion.
