Hon. Sir Sydney Chukuma Ukonu.

November 13, 1936 - August 15 2024 (87 years)

We, the Ukonu Family, of Umudim Amuzu, Amaimo in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria, regrettably announce the transition of our father, father in-law, grandfather, brother, cousin, brother in-law, uncle, patriarch and an amazing man, Hon. Sir Sydney Chukuma Nlemedim Ukonu, to glory, on the 15th of August, 2024, after a brief illness at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington DC. Hon. Sir Sydney Ukonu left us at the age of 87.

Hon. Sir Sydney Ukonu served in God’s vineyards in Nigeria and the United States of America, in churches like the Cathedral Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Owerri (CATOL), St. James (Ang) Church Amaimo 1, St. Cyprian’s (Ang) Church Owerri and the Holy Trinity Anglican Church of Houston, until his last days.

As a father, he was a close friend to us, his children. He treated us with kindness and always had our names in his mouth during prayers. He remains the best we have ever had in our home. We will be left with his teachings and amazing memories.

While we navigate through this very heartbreaking time of our lives, we plead that you remember our family in your prayers. We ask God for continued strength, even as his trustworthy son joins him in heaven, in the company of the saints that have gone before him.

NOTICE FOR THE SERVICE OF SONGS

Sir Sydney Ukonu loved God and showed it in songs and music, and in his honour, there would a service of song on the Saturday, November 9, 2024 (His birth month) at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. This will be live-streamed for family members and well wishers who would love to join to honour Sir Sydney in the Songs he loved.
