WALTER RUTA

Obituary of WALTER RUTA

WALTER RUTA Passed away peacefully on April 13th, 2013 at Donwood Personal Care Home, at the age of 90 years. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Frances Ruta (Nabozniak), his three sons Jim (Rhonda) of Burlington, ON, Tom (Martha) of Calgary, AB, Wally of Selkirk and his sister Annie Wicharenko (Norman) of Oakbank, MB. He was beloved "Gigi" to his grandchildren Jonathan, Catherine, Abigail, Matthew, Andrea, Juliana and Carson. He was predeceased by his mother Julia, father Harry, infant brother Stephen and sister Pearl Mazur. Walter was born in Cook’s Creek, Manitoba on July 24, 1922. He was a veteran of WWII but rarely spoke of it. After the war, he worked for the CN Railway and later with Eaton’s Downtown and St. Vital. In retirement, he enjoyed the cottage, travelling with his wife and golfing. He was above all, an avid outdoorsman and spent many happy days hunting, fishing and camping with the family. He enjoyed seasonal camping at White Lake for years and then spending time at the family cottage at Falcon Lake. He learned to water ski in his 50s and loved the water and the sun. Dad always enjoyed visits from his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. When someone dropped in on Dad, "Gigi" or "Uncle Walter", it always brought a smile to his face. He loved to visit and reminisce with family. It made a real difference in his life. The family thanks the wonderful staff at Donwood Personal Care home for the loving care Dad received over the past few years. Your kindness and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. Divine Liturgy will take place 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 20 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church in East Kildonan (Watt St. and Munroe Ave.) where Walter was a member since 1955. A reception will be held in the Church Auditorium after the service with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s name to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. We miss you Dad. You will never be forgotten. REST IN PEACE "Vichnaya Pam’yat"
