I only met Nahom a couple of times during extracurricular basketball, however, it was evident he was a great person in the limited times I met him. Join in honoring their life - plant a memorial tree

Remembering Nahom, I can’t help but think of the phrase, "good people die young." Nahom was the embodiment of that sentiment, a gentle giant whose presence was felt by everyone who knew him. In the 17 years I had the privilege to call him a friend, I rarely saw him without a smile on his face. That smile, warm and genuine, was the first thing that would greet you and the last thing you'd remember as you parted ways.
Nahom was a was a family man, devoted to his parents, Lauren (partner), kids, and always willing to lend a hand. He was a friend who would drop everything if you needed help, no questions asked. When Nahom found out he was going to be a father, he was ecstatic. The joy in his voice during our conversations was infectious. He was over the moon with happiness, eager to embark on the journey of fatherhood. Nahom mentioned few times how excited and lucky he was to have Lauren. It's heartbreaking to think that his children won't have many memories with their dad, but I take comfort in knowing that Nahom will always be watching over them.
Some of my fondest memories with Nahom were our intense workout sessions, especially our two and half hour ab marathons every Wednesday. We would push each other, sweat pouring, but always with a smile at the end of it. Then there were our political debates, which often saw us on opposite sides of the fence. Despite our differences, Nahom's caring nature meant we could discuss, argue, and still part as the best of friends. This summer after a decade of small talk and debates, Nahom finally conceded, "I'm not voting for that guy anymore," and we both burst into laughter, a moment I'll never forget.
Nahom’s second love after his family was sports. NBA and NFL were his passions, and I was lucky to share in that enthusiasm. For many years, I had the honor of being invited to Christmas dinners at his mom's house. Before the meal, it was tradition to play a game of Madden, a lighthearted competition before we gathered around the table.
Nahom was always quick to forgive, even in the toughest situations. His heart was so big that he couldn't hold onto grudges. I remember once, as a close friend, I had to remind him that while it’s great to forgive—and something we should all strive to do—he didn’t have to do it immediately, and take sometime. He laughed at that and agreed, showing once again his good-natured spirit.
Going forward, life will never be the same without you brother. Your kindness, loyalty, and unwavering friendship have left a mark on me and all who knew you. I’m beyond grateful that our paths crossed, and for the years of close friendship that followed. Rest easy, my friend. Enjoy hooping up with Kobe up there. You will never be forgotten ❤️

Nahom and I spent a great deal of time together at MTI. We enjoyed talking sports, laughter and both loved to eat. We even would go to costco at lunch for samples. We had a special bond and always kept in touch even when he left MTI. My best memory was going to a Bomber game where we got on the field before the game. Nahom never kicked a football before but he nailed a bunch of field goals from long range. He was a good athlete. He was a gentle giant, easy to talk to and a lot of fun. His passing is hard to take. Love you man, miss you.

Nahom was a walking smile. He had a full heart and I cannot recall a time he was ever angry at anything, anyone or anytime. He loved his basketball. Almost more than life. I cherish the times I had with him all throughout high school being his teammate, and friend. RIP Nahom.
