Sonja Carol Olien

May 28, 1944 - August 16, 2024

Our beloved mother and wife passed away peacefully with family by her side August 16, 2024 at Concordia Hospital at the age of 80 years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ivan (senior) and Ragna Foss, siblings Ivan (junior) Foss, Larry Foss and Sharon Fletcher,  nephew Geoffrey Foss.

Sonja will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Olien; children, Grant Olien (Pauline Doyle) and Christy Seniuk (Bill), grandchildren Brad Johnston, Ryan Olien, Brennah Doyle, Kiera Doyle-Olien and Jack Seniuk.  She also leaves her nieces and nephews, Laura, Paul and Andrew Foss; Rachel Segelhorst, Chris and Ryan Foss, and Jenny Dengl and Amy Braun.

Sonja was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB.  She met Robert when she was 13 years old and after dating for several years, got married September 21, 1963 in Winnipeg. She worked for several years with the TB Registry as part of the Manitoba Lung Association and Sanatorium Board of Manitoba.  Sonja loved cooking and baking for her family, which the family thoroughly enjoyed.  She made sure the cookie jar was always full for the grandkids.

She enjoyed bingo, loved her gardening and flowers, playing cards with her family.  There were many great years spending time with friends and family at their cottage.

The family would like to thank the healthcare professionals from the Concordia Urgent Care and third floor west nursing unit.  She received excellent care.

A celebration of life will be planned for Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the Transcona Retired Citizens Organization, 328 Whittier Ave West, Winnipeg, from 1-4 pm.  If so desired, friends and family may make donations on Sonja’s behalf to the Manitoba Lung Association, Cancer Care Manitoba, or Heart and Stroke Foundation Manitoba
