I am deeply saddened with the passing of my dear cousin John. My deepest condolences to Trish, Edith and family.
John was a great cousin and life long friend to me. As kids we spent many Saturdays together watching cartoons and then going to the park play structures and trees where John would demonstrate his climbing skills as if it was a cartoon. It was no wonder he became an arborist later in life. We would hang around the neighborhood and play billiards and pinball all afternoon at the Blue Room. Guess our parents were on to us so they sent me to German school and piano lessons and John had to help his dad in the garage, but we soon became teenagers and the good times started again! As teenagers, we would head out to my cabin at Victoria Beach when the parents were working in the city. We spent many days hanging out at the beach and with beach friends and riding our dirt bikes through the forest trails. We would stay up all night and then drive our dirt bikes to a cliff overlooking the lake and watch the sun come up! John learned a lot about cars from his dad and was always a great help. We drove his dad crazy bringing those wrecks into the garage! From winter beaters to muscle cars John could fix them all and was always willing to help out when I got in over my head. We had great fun cruising around in his Chevelle and my GTO and even going to Gimli dragways. John was always so easy to hang out with and we always had a great time.
Great memories with a great friend! Until we meet again.
Sincerely, Will |Hoff

I met John after moving into Winnipeg in the early 80’s. We had so much in common (cars , roller skating and down hill skiing to mention a few). We had some epic adventures. I remember us on a Friday after work hopping in his datsun, grabbing a case of jolt cola and driving through the night to banff arriving in the morning and skiing the day before checking in to a motel. We skied Saturday and Sunday and drove back to Winnipeg in time for us to go back to work Monday morning. There were Saturday night cruises to the A&W on portage avenue with his 69 chevelle convertible. John was my best man at my wedding and the person I would go to for automotive repair advice as his dad taught him well. I thought he was a confirmed bachelor until he met Trish, the true love of his life. He was truly happy. Life happens and we didn’t get together often but the time we did spend it was like we had never missed a day. He will be truly missed.
