Obituary of NORMAN NAHERNY

NORMAN NAHERNY

April 30, 1930 – July 28, 2024

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Norman Naherny on July 28, 2024 at the age of 94.

Norman was predeceased by his brother Walter and his daughter Marilyn.

He leaves to mourn his devoted daughter Margaret Bryner, son Bill Naherny, Son-In-Law Cameron Bjornson, Grandchildren Eric (Annik) Bjornson and Lisa Bjornson. As well as his Great-grandchildren Jack and Luke Bjornson.

Norman was born and raised in the North End of Winnipeg. He worked for CNR for over four decades and the sound of trains passing by his home was always music to his ears. Norman was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family will remember him as the gentle, soft spoken, thoughtful and kind man that he was.

He lived a quiet life in the home that he loved, with his companion Tommy. Tommy was a stray cat that Norman has rescued and gave the best home to. Norman had a love for all animals; he often rescued injured birds and nursed them back to health. Dad was skilled at many things- carpentry, sewing, fixing anything that anyone brought to him. He had the most beautiful garden that he planted every year for 60 years. He would share the fruits of his labour with his neighbors, leaving buckets of vegetables on their doorsteps.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Rick, who visited Norman daily. Those visits meant everything to him.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 965 Boyd Avenue. With interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Norman’s memory to The Winnipeg Humane Society.

We will miss you every day until we are together again
