SOFIE DZUBA
April 26, 1935 – July 29, 2024
Sofie Dzuba passed away on July 29 at Holy Family Personal Care Home at the age of 89 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Alec, her parents Nikita and Fedora Evashchenko, her brother Nick and sister-in-law Lydia.
Sofie is survived and lovingly remembered by her children Sandy (Rob) and Brian (Jocelyn), and her grandchildren Dylan, Marshal and Jordan.
Sofie was born on April 26, 1935, and raised in Poplar Bluff, Saskatchewan. She taught school for 36 years starting in Lynn Lake and then Winnipeg School Division. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral and the Lesia Ukrainka Women’s Association.
Sofie had many hobbies but one of her favorite pastimes was knitting. Over the years, many people were recipients of afghan blankets, hats, scarves and sweaters. In retirement, she knitted over 5,000 pairs of mitts, hats and scarves donated to Project “Liubov – Love”. This Project helped underprivileged youth in Ukraine in orphanages, homes for street kids and schools.
The family would like to thank the staff of Unit 4A Holy Family Personal Care Home for the support and care provided over the past 4 years.
Prayers will be held on Friday, August 2, at 7:00 pm and the Funeral Rite will be held on Saturday, August 3 at 10:00 am at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral, 1175 Main Street, Internment will follow at Glen Eden Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers and if people so desire, donations can be made to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral, Cancer Care Manitoba or Holy Family Personal Care Home.
