ALAN BAXTER

Obituary of ALAN PETER BAXTER

On Friday July 26th our beloved dad and grandpa, Alan passed away with family by his side.  Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Kerri (Darren), son Scott (Tatiana), grandchildren Kaitlyn, Kyle, Tayla, Kinsley and Makenna, brothers Geoff (Barb), Jim (Bonnie), Bruce (Wendy), his sister Sandra and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.  He was predeceased by his wife; Donna, Father & Mother; Reg & Joan Baxter, Father & Mother In-Law; Jack & Myrtle Smith and his youngest sister; Janice Baxter.

Alan was born in Hamiota, Manitoba and raised on the family farm in Decker, Manitoba until the family moved to the Town of Transcona in 1959.  Alan attended John W. Gunn Junior High and graduated from Transcona Collegiate in 1974.  Alan completed his Inter-provincial Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics in March of 1984 with Four Seasons Equipment.  Alan changed careers in the early 90’s and worked for Inland Aggregates for over 35 years at the sand pits in various roles up to his final position at the company as Plant Operator until retirement.

Alan married Donna, August 13th, 1983 and they remained in Transcona where they raised their two children.  Dad was a proud grandpa to his five grandchildren.  He enjoyed his time with them, watching videos of Kaitlyn’s baton twirling, hearing Kyle’s football stories, watching movies with Tayla, playing with Kinsley and having Makenna act as his personal hairdresser.  We shared weekly suppers at dad’s house which were always filled with sarcasm and lots of laughs.  Dad could most often be found with a book in his hand whether at the kitchen table or on the deck outside, he was always reading.  He and mom enjoyed their weekends at the lake in Sandy Hook.  He also enjoyed watching the Blue Bombers and always wore a team shirt on game day!

Dad will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  A memorial service will be held at 11am on Tuesday August 6th, 2024 at Cropo Funeral Chapel located at 1800 Day Street in Transcona.  An interment will follow in the afternoon at the Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan’s memory can be made to the Royal Canada Legion, Branch #7.
