LOUIS TATARYN

Obituary of LOUIS ALEXANDER TATARYN

We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Father and Grandpa, Louis Tataryn, on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the age of 86 years.

Louis will be lovingly remembered by his children, Philip Tataryn (Judith), Sandra Boutcher and Dr. Brian Tataryn (Kristin); grandchildren, Laura, Emily, Alex, Geoffrey, Sarah and Katherine.  He will be missed by his sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.  Louis was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Effie (nee Stepaniuk); his daughter Sharon and son-in-law Earl Firth; his parents William and Teenie Tataryn; his siblings Lawrence Tataryn and Mary Zambik.

Louis was born and raised near Silver, Manitoba and was the second oldest of three children.  Growing up on the family farm meant hard work and some tough times.  Louis met the light of his life, Effie, and was married in May 1962. He enjoyed a successful career with CN Railway, which began in Edmonton and finished in Winnipeg.  Following his retirement, he returned to his true passion in life – farming.  Countless hours were spent on the farm near Rosa, where he was most happy.   Dad had a simply unparalleled work ethic and never gave up on what he believed in.  He enjoyed the outdoors and experiencing nature.  In the farming off-season, he had a quest for knowledge and was an avid reader.

Louis’ family was a source of pride and joy for him.  He deeply missed Mom, Sharon and Earl following their passing.  Dad had a “soft spot” for his grandchildren (and pet cats) and loved spending time with them - especially at the farm.  He instilled in our family an appreciation for nature, the importance of getting an education, and that nothing worth having comes easy.

Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 10:00 am at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 505 Watt Street, in Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. V. Bashutskyy officiating.  Interment will take place at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Rosa, MB.

Our family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Poseidon Care Home.

For those who wish, donations in Louis’ honour may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
