Obituary of DUNCAN PETER ZALUSKI

It is with sad hearts we announce the sudden passing of Duncan on Sunday, May 26, age of 54.

Predeceased by his mother, Delores and leaves behind his  father Edward, brother Dwayne and sister Colleen.

Born in Selkirk, raised in Winnipeg he attended Ralph Brown Elementary, enjoyed jamborees and camp outs as a Cub/Boy Scouts and then St. John’s High School and Red River College.  He worked at Gunn’s Bakery for close to 18 years as a baker until his passing.

He studied music at school, graduated grade 10 in the Royal Conservatory of Music and Kolts Music Studios then taught music there for many years until they closed.  He was also a  member of a few bands who played at weddings and socials.

He attended St. Anthony of Padua Parish (WK), was a member of the Saturday evening Mass choir joining at a young age and then directed the choir until he passed, and was also a  member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10569 for 28 years.

Duncan LOVED singing and was a respected and dedicated member of the Winnipeg Golden Chordsmen and the Barbershop Harmony Society (SPEBSQSA) for 23 years. Throughout many of those years, he served the Winnipeg Chapter in a variety of ways - Music Librarian (19 years), Tenor Section Leader (10 years), Historian, House, Music VP (6 years), Chapter Greeter and 50/50 Person, Asst. Show Producer (2012), and Show Producer (2013). He received the Past President’s award in 2011 and the Barbershopper of the Year award in 2012 and was a nine-time Attendance Award winner. He was awarded the Dorothy Casselman Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021. Duncan sang Tenor in a three quartets – Heartfelt Harmony, Generations of Sound, and All 4 One.

Duncan will be missed by his family, friends, Barbershop Harmony Society and many parishioners of St. Anthony of Padua Parish (WK)

Prayers will be on Thursday, June 6 at 7:00 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 7 at 11:00 a.m.  Both will take place at St. Anthony of Padua Parish (WK), 250 Burrin Ave. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Anthony of Padua Parish (WK) or SingCanadaHarmony.ca
