Obituary of JAMES RICHARD CHURCHILL GRAYDON
Beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Brother-in-Law, Father-in-Law, Colleague, Teacher, Principal, and Friend. Dad’s career in education spanned more than 45 years, beginning in New Zealand (where he also served as an Army Reserve Sergeant), moving to Scotland (where he met the love of his life, Betty Ann), and thereafter unfolding in Winnipeg. Here he worked as a teacher at Faraday, Vice Principal at Lord Roberts and Gordon Bell, and Principal at Luxton, William Whyte, Issac Brock, Wellington and John M. King schools.
In retirement he worked as a faculty advisor for student teachers at the University of Manitoba and served as Chair of the Board of Regents for the University of Winnipeg. Throughout the course of 40 years, Dad volunteered at Kildonan Community Church in just about every conceivable role—which he loved doing. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling, sailing, reading, and listening to classical music.
People admired and appreciated Dad for his steadfast commitment, professionalism and leadership abilities; he strived to go above and beyond in everything he did. He is loved and survived by his wife Betty Ann, daughters Jenny (Craig) and Heather (Majid), grandson Daniel, and many dear extended family members.
Funeral to be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 1:00 pm in Kildonan Community Church (2373 Main Street, Winnipeg). Interment to be held at a future date.
