DONN PIRIE

Obituary of DONN ELWOOD PIRIE

Donn passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital on March 26, at the age of 80 years.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, his children Grant, Suzanne, and Donn (Ria), grandchildren Kathrine Munro (Kurtis), Autumn MacKenzie, Andrew Pirie, Elizabeth Pirie, and his great grandchildren Gwynevere and Ember Munro.  He also leaves his sister Charline Dutka and sister-in-law Beverley Pirie as well as nephews Rodney Pirie, Tim Gelette and nieces Rayline, Charray,

Jennifer Dutka, Nancy Gelette, and Shari Truax.

He was predeceased by his parents Bruce and Grace (Hadden) Pirie, his brother Ronnell, and his brother-in-law Ray Dutka.

Born in Regina, Donn moved to Winnipeg at the age of 5.  He attended schools in St. Vital and the Manitoba Institute of Technology.  He worked for Safeway for a few years and then moved into sales with Rowntree MacIntosh, and later Nestle until his retirement.

Donn enjoyed golfing, long walks with his dogs, and time spent at the family cottage on Lake Winnipeg.  He could and would engage anyone and everyone in conversation and loved a good debate.  He enjoyed sharing stories about his many adventures as a younger man, as well as stories from the road working for Rowntree and Nestle.

Donn spent 54 years married to the love of his life Barbara.  The family they built together was his greatest joy.  Time spent around the table sharing a meal, or teaching everyone a lesson during a game of cards was time well spent—and these card lessons began early in life with his kids and grandchildren.  Wherever Dad was, there was fun and laughter.

Our family is especially grateful for the wonderful care he received through Cancer Care Manitoba, Palliative Care Services, and the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Ward.

In lieu of flowers, if friends desire donations in Donn's honour can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, https://www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca or Before the Bridge Senior K9 Rescue, c/o Box 11, Stony Mountain, Mb. R0C3A0 or beforethebridge@hotmail.ca
