Obituary of CHRISTINE PIDBORCHYNSKI
Christine Pidborchynski
Peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2024, our beloved mother, Baba and great-Baba passed away at the age of 98.
Christine Pidborchynski is survived and will be lovingly missed by her husband of 72 years, Thomas; children Debbie (Chris), Cyndi, Gerry (Tammy) and Kathy (Peter); grandchildren Breanne, Rayna (Jay), Justin (Kaitlyn), Kaitlin, Tanner, Haley, Grace, Jesse (Krista) and Brooke (Brett); and great-grandchildren Stella, Arlo, Flora and Ellis, as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends. Christine was predeceased by her first-born son, Joseph Thomas, and sisters Anne (Nick), Rose (Tony), Joyce (Roy) and Mary (Peter).
Christine was born on the family farm in Silver, MB, to Iwan and Maria Spuzak. She was the youngest of five sisters. She married her husband, Tom, in 1951. Christine was a pioneer of her time; while raising her family, she obtained her driver’s licence, learned to swim, as well as held various jobs. She attended “normal school” and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She later worked for the RCMP and retired from the Winnipeg School Division as a receptionist. She took much pride as one of the few who knew the Ukrainian typewriter.
Her faith was our family anchor, and she tirelessly shared her love and support to her family. She devoted herself to her children and grandchildren, never missing a birthday or special occasion or event. Tears would flow from her as she said grace before a family meal, and she always sent everyone off with a food care package. She loved preparing meals, canning her garden bounty and picking mushrooms and fruit. Keeping the Winnipeg Beach cottage was an extension of the family home.
Christine was an avid bowler, loved to shop and enjoyed travelling with Tom — Hawaii was their favourite destination. Other hobbies included sewing, crocheting and knitting, which kept her busy to her final days. She was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Holy Family Home (St. Basil unit) for the exceptional care.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 27, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church (748 Keewatin Street), with the viewing at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery (4535 Main Street).
Pallbearers will be Gerry Pidborchynski, Justin Vitt, Jesse de Rocquigny, Tanner Pidborchynski, Jay Meakin and Dean Werenich.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Family Home or charity of your choice
