Obituary of ROSE MARIE YAUK

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Rose Marie, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, at the age of 69 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Bruce Yauk and survived by her daughters, Theresa (Steve) and Evelyn (Dave), and son Noah (Janel), as well as by grandchildren Nora and Sam. She is also survived by her sisters Stella (Allan) in Victoria, Evangeline (Peter) and brother Edward (Judy), as well as many nieces and nephews. Rose Marie grew up in River Heights, in a ‘Bailey home’ built by her father whose homes were known for superior workmanship. The house was well-situated for a young girl and her three siblings: Rose Marie spent a lot of time as a child playing in the schoolyard across the street. Train tracks behind the house afforded even more green space. In her high-school years, Rose Marie attended Grant Park High School. Upon graduation, Rose Marie worked for several years and then, after meeting Tom on a blind date, married, had children and became a stay-at-home mom in the North End of Winnipeg. Rose Marie was popular with the neighbourhood kids for her jovial disposition and savory cooking. Friends were always welcome after school, and, on occasion, Noah and his friends would have much of the day’s dinner polished off before dinner time. A popular weekend retreat for Rose Marie and family was a 40 acre property near Beausejour, where Rose Marie enjoyed roughing it, surrounded by the beauty of the classic Manitoba landscape. Her cooking did not miss a beat: the wood stove in the ‘bunkhouse’ always had a pot or roaster full of something wonderful. Rose Marie was a creative soul. She turned yards of fabric into fashionable clothes, and packages of flower seeds into well-tended flower beds. Her garden was well-admired and she became skilled at seed-starting. Even the hardest-to-grow varieties germinated readily under her care. Rose Marie also had a passion for antiques and collectibles and was known for her extensive knowledge, particularly with respect to glassware. Her many acquisitions were displayed throughout the house, one of the most interesting being a gramophone that still plays records. We give thanks to the Mackenzie family for lending Rose Marie unending support after Tom’s passing and then again over the past year as she faced many health issues. We also give thanks to the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Rose Marie spoke highly of the nurses and doctors who tended to her at CancerCare. ER nurse, Melissa, and hospice nurse, Mona, also tended to Rose Marie with compassion and caring. Special thanks, as well, to the WRHA Home Care Providers. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with viewing prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue at the Perimeter Highway. Rest in peace, Rose Marie, you will be missed and will always be close to our hearts. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
