Obituary of GEORGE (GEBO) GRABOWSKI
May 6, 1931 – December 29, 2023
In the early hours of December 29, 2023, God said to Dad - “Follow Me” and he did just that, peacefully in his sleep. Our hearts are heavy, but we take comfort in knowing that Dad is once again together with his forever sweetheart Marion, who left us in June 2018.
Dad lived a full 92 ½ years and leaves our family with many great stories and memories that we will forever hold in our hearts. He will be dearly missed by his children Terri Turner, Jan Middleton (Keith) and Rob (Teresa), his grandchildren, Jeff (Barbie), Alex, Curtis (Dolly) and Kenny (Chantelle), and his great-grandchildren, Charlotte & Brielle, Sofia & Jackson, Piper & Benny and Parker. Dad also leaves to cherish his memory sisters-in-law Joanne Kroll & Josie Gunn, as well as family members in Manitoba and the US.
Besides his loving wife Marion, George was also predeceased by his parents John & Eva Grabowski, in-laws Joseph & Emilia Chruszcz, sister Mary Smerek and husband Mike, brothers-in-law Frank Kroll, Stanley Cruse and wife Kay, Brian Gunn, and his son -in-law Tom.
Dad was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the North End. He and Mom started dating in grade 7 and married in August 1952. Dad was a Journeyman Electrician, worked for Thompson Electric and later worked at the City of Winnipeg Signals and Communications Departments, retiring in 1993.
Religion was a very important part of Dad’s life. He attended Blessed Virgin Mary Church, was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, and in more recent years a member of St. John Cantius Church.
In May 2022, after residing in our family home on Manitoba Avenue for 62 years, Dad moved into Kildonan House Assisted Living where he made many new friends. Our family would like to thank and acknowledge each of the KH staff; you made Dad feel special and always ensured he was well taken care of.
The family would also like to thank Dr. D. Tsang for his years of caring for Dad, the Palliative Manitoba Home Care Program and Riverview Health Centre – 3E Palliative Care staff who kept Dad comfortable these past few weeks.
The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am followed by Mass at 10:00 am, at St. John Cantius Church, 846 Burrows Avenue, Tuesday, January 9, 2024, with Rev. Geoffrey Angeles officiating. A private family interment will follow.
Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in George’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Winnipeg, Riverview Health Centre – Palliative 3 East, or a charity of your choice.
Rest in Peace Dad – We Love You More!
