DONNA MESMAN

Obituary of DONNA EVA MESMAN

Donna Eva Mesman

(née Gaska)

December 21, 1947 – December 24, 2023

Donna Eva Mesman (née Gaska) began her life as a displaced person. She was born in Lübeck, Germany in the shadow of WWII. At the age of one - with her father, Julian, and her mother, Jadwiga - she moved to Winnipeg. Here she found her place.

She found her place in the city’s North End - attending school at Holy Ghost and St. John’s., where she developed her pragmatism and wry sense of humour. She found her place in her church - a lifelong parishioner of Holy Ghost, where she recognized hope and embraced faith. She found her place in her union - which stoked her sense of justice. Above all, she found her place in family - as a loving daughter, a best-friend sister, a steadfast mother, a quirky auntie, and a doting grandmother.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Zachary (Julie Price) and Daniel (Roxanne), grandchildren Ellice, Calvin, Rory, Brody, Everly, sister Teresa Banman (Gerald), niece Lindsay Banman (Matt Penner), grandniece Norah - along with many great friends.

The grace and humour with which she approached every step of her life - right to the very end - is an inspiration to us all.

A service at Holy Ghost Parish will be held in her memory on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 10:00 am.
