Obituary of MARIA DA ENCARNACAO VIEIRA BATISTA
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother,
mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend, Maria Da Encarnacao, who departed this world
on December 19, 2023 at the age of 85. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and
community that will forever be cherished.
Mom was a beacon of light within her community throughout her long and vibrant life. She
was not just a mother to her own children but a motherly figure to all who had the
privilege of knowing her. Her kindness and unwavering support touched the lives of many,
making her a beloved and respected figure.
Mom was a pillar of strength, demonstrating resilience and determination in the face of
adversity. Her unyielding spirit inspired those around her, proving that age was never a
barrier to pursuing one's passions and dreams. She continued to actively participate in
community events, engage in charitable work, and pursue her hobbies, even into her later
years.
Known for her warm heart and welcoming smile, Mom fostered a sense of belonging
among her neighbors and friends. Her home was always open to those seeking comfort,
advice, or simply a listening ear. Her wisdom and counsel were sought by many, and her
legacy of compassion and empathy will continue to guide us all.
Mom was born in Olival, Portugal and moved to Canada in 1968. Mom was predeceased
by her husband, Jacinto, her parents Emilia and Manuel and her brother Jose. Mom had a
deep love for family, and her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. Mom is
survived by her children, Tony (Debbie), Jose (Lucia), Ivone (Tyler), grandchildren,
Remington, Cameron (Chloe), Tiago, Emilio, Eve and Xander, her sisters, Celeste and
Leonor and numerous family members in Winnipeg, Portugal and France.
In addition to her family, Mom leaves behind a community that will forever be touched by
her presence. Her contributions, whether through volunteer work, mentoring, or her
simple acts of kindness, have left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she
encountered.
Though Mom faced a brief illness in her final days, she met it with the same grace and
strength that defined her life. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones,
knowing that her legacy of love and compassion would live on in the hearts of all those
she touched.
A special thank you to the doctors and staff at the St. Boniface MICU for all the special care
and compassion given to Mom in her final days of life.
In honoring Mom, we celebrate a life well-lived, a mother deeply loved, and a community
forever enriched by her presence. She will be dearly missed but remembered with
profound gratitude for the love and kindness she shared with us all.
Prayers will be held on Thursday, December 28th at 7pm at Immaculate Conception
Parish, 181 Austin St. N, Winnipeg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 29th, 2023 at 12pm Noon at
Immaculate Conception Parish. Interment to follow at Assumption Roman Catholic
Cemetery 3390 Portage Avenue, with Father Andre Lico officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Mom’s memory to the Heart and Stroke
Foundation.
May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire us all to live our
lives with the same love, strength, and generosity that she exemplified.
Descanse em paz, Mãe, you will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
