ODETE MORAIS

Obituary of ODETE MARIA SOARES MORAIS

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Angel Odete Maria Morais nee Soares on November 21st, 2023 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 70. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband Manuel, her children David, Cecilia (Mark), and Denis (Ashley) and her grandchildren: Tyson, Alexis, Brayden and Paris. Also left to mourn are her siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mom was born in Santa Maria, Acores on March 23, 1953. She immigrated to Winnipeg in December of 1971, where she met her husband and best friend of 48 years.

Mom enjoyed spending her time playing with her grandchildren, cleaning, and cheering for several different sports teams. She was an avid and longtime fan of Sporting CP and the Winnipeg Jets. She never shied away from participating in the family fantasy hockey draft. Mom was also a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Over the last 5 years Mom overcame some significant medical challenges and never allowed these challenges to affect her everyday life. She had the ability to command the room with her presence and humour. She was the epitome of selfless, always putting other peoples interests ahead of her own.

We would like to sincerely thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, paramedics, and firefighters who did everything they could while attending to my mom. Their effort and professionalism was greatly appreciated and acknowledged.

A prayer vigil will be held on November 27, at 7:00 p.m.at Cropo Funeral Chapel on 1442 Main Street.

A Funeral will be held on November 28, at 12:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish located at 181 Austin Street.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
