MOIRA BLACK

Obituary of MOIRA BLACK

Moira Black

(nee Craig)

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Moira on Thursday November 9, 2023.

Moira was born in 1934 in Ayr, Scotland. She met and married the “love of her life” Hugh Black in 1954. Mom was a “stay at home” mom in Scotland, caring for her four children. Both our mom and dad had discussed coming to Canada for a better life but it didn’t happen till 1966.

Times were tough in the beginning, however they persevered. Mom eventually worked for Canada Safeway for many years where she made friends and fondly remembered moments with the community who came to visit.

Family was everything to mom. She had a huge heart and took care of all of us Every one of our friends were welcome and the kettle was always on for tea, a biscuit and perhaps a pot of homemade soup. Then when the grandchildren came along, she doted on them. Her life got even busier, knitting for them, baking with them and attending all their activities; hockey, baseball, soccer, dancing, recitals, choir and of course Christmas and band concerts.

Mom always had treats for the dogs and they knew the drawer they were kept in.

She loved being outside and active from a young age, walking for miles, biking, camping, but nothing will beat those family gatherings where she would sing with dad and share a laugh, and we’d all join in.

Mom loved musicals, movies or live theatre! She attended symphony and Opera occasionally. She loved music.

Left to mourn this lovely lady are her children, Hugh (Dawn), Irene (John), David (Brenda), Craig (Cheryl) her grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and family.

You are at peace mom.

The family wishes to thank the staff on the second floor N unit for their care during mom’s short stay at Middlechurch plus the support they gave to the family during mom’s last few days.

A “Celebration of Life “will take place at a later date.
