MARLENE RITA REINHOLDT

(nee REICHENAUER)

May 11, 1935 – November 4, 2023

Peacefully with family at her side, Marlene passed away November 4, 2023 at Golden Links Lodge after a long battle with dementia. It is with heavy hearts, but great memories that we had to say goodbye.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Ewald (Ed), soulmate of 65 years, her children Angela (Joe) and Loretta (Andy), grandchildren Paul (Laurel), Marc, Colin and great grandchild Mackenzie. Marlene is predeceased by her parents, Wenzel and Elly Reichenauer and her brother Norbert.

Marlene was born in Delmenhorst and raised in Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Germany. She left Germany at the age of 21 and ventured out on her own in 1955 to Canada. She met Ewald, the love of her life in Winnipeg, and married in 1958. They made Winnipeg their home and she became full-time mother to their two daughters.

Marlene had a passion for enjoying family and friends, for travelling the world, camping, cooking, baking, gardening, and learning how to downhill ski at the age of 50. Her exceptional baking skills brought delight to all of us. Marlene and Ewald enjoyed spending time at the cottage, which they had lovingly built together on their own with help of friends. She was witty and the life of the parties. We will miss her sense of humour and love of laughter. Unfortunately, dementia began at the early age of 72.

Thank you to family and friends who provided compassion for Marlene throughout her illness, and to the wonderful staff at Golden Links Lodge for their excellent heartwarming sensitive care.

In accordance with Marlene and her family’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. The family will hold a small private interment at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation may be made in memory of Marlene to Golden Links Lodge, www.goldenlinks.mb.ca or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, www.alzheimer.mb.ca
