Obituary of MARIAN ELLIS

MARIAN ELLIS

January 24, 1943 – September 10, 2023.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mum, Marian Ellis, on September 10, 2023, at the age of 80.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Gary, Colin (Cheryl) and Susan (Alex), grandchildren Noah, Sarah, Terrin, Braden, Bailey, Liam, Natalie and Emma, sisters Olwen, Glenys and Gwyneth and many other extended family in England. She was predeceased by her husband Colin, father Owen, mother Dorothy and sister Elizabeth (Betty).

Mum and dad were married on January 4, 1964 and immigrated to Canada the summer of 1965. Upon arriving in Winnipeg, Marian took a job at a local hospital. After becoming a mum, she dedicated herself to being a homemaker. As the children grew older, mum returned to the workforce, first working for Singer Sewing Machines in Kildonan Place Mall before moving onto Eaton’s department store where she worked until she retired.

For over 45 years, mum enjoyed her summers at Morden’s Meadows Campground. From the early days when her children were young, to the later years when her and dad were retired, they made many memories and built lifelong friendships. After dad’s passing, she continued to go out there with her children and grandchildren. While it was not easy for her to get around as much in these later years, she was quite content to sit and watch all the activities out the front window with her “grand puppy” Cooper keeping her company.

Mum and dad moved into East Park Lodge 15 years ago. Mum was always involved in the apartment activities and went on to be the President of the Tenant’s Association a few times. She spoke of all her friends there fondly and was fiercely loyal to them.

Mum’s greatest joy were her children and grandchildren (of course everyone knew who her favourite was). She was always ready for a game of Scrabble, Othello or Boggle and always made car rides to the lake go by quickly by playing count the cars or rounds of I Spy With My Little Eye. She made all holidays special in her own way, whether it be sewing Halloween costumes, baking Christmas treats or preparing everyone’s favourite dinner for their birthdays. She had so much love and patience as we all turned to her for an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on.

Our family wish to express our special thanks to the doctors, nurses and other support staff at St. Boniface hospital in the Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU). They provided such compassion and comfort in mum’s final days.

Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 1:00pm at Park Manor Care Home, 301 Redonda Street.
