It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Gertrudes Lopes Goncalves at the Health Sciences Centre on July 24, 2023 at the age of 88 years.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Manuel, daughter Filomena and brother Antonio.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Antonio (Nelia) and Sergio (Tracey). Grandsons Marcio (Steven), Bruno (Ainslie), Thomas (Megan), Austin (Anna) and Jordan. Brother Manuel and family of Portugal. Mom will be sadly missed by family and friends in Winnipeg, Portugal and England.

Gertrudes was born in Vale da Serra, Portugal and immigrated to Canada in 1973 with her husband and children.

Mom’s life was one of family, friends, and faith. She was a caring loving mother to her children and loving wife to her husband. She loved her five grandsons. She was grateful for all the friendships she had within her community with friends providing ongoing assistance over the years. Her faith was her strength in the challenges she faced in her life including the loss of her daughter Filomena in 2010 and the passing of her husband Manuel in 2015 and in Mom overcoming serious health issues.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the health care professionals at Health Sciences Centre.
