Obituary of GERTRUDE RITA KOSTIUK

We are saddened to announce that Gertrude Kostiuk, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away on Tuesday, June 20^th, 2023. Gertrude passed at the young age of 77 years old at Riverview Health Centre, with her family by her side after a short battle with cancer.

Gertrude was predeceased by her parents, Émilien and Cécile (Turenne) Préfontaine, her husband, Larry, and her sister, Colette.

Gertrude and Larry are survived by two children: Christopher (Christie) and Derek (Pascale), and grandchildren: Kaela (Cody), Lucas, Benjamin, Emily, Tristan, William, and Gabrielle. She is also survived by her loving sister, Deanne Landry (Marc), wonderful sister in-law Olga Kostiuk, niece Adrienne (Raji), and nephew Austin, along with many caring other family members.

Gertrude worked as an educational assistant at Springfield Heights Elementary from 1985 until 2011, alongside her position at the YMCA before and after school program. Gertrude spent her days as a devout Catholic, dedicating her time to the Catholic Women’s League for over ten years. After retirement, she joined a senior’s group and engaged in a floor curling and bowling league with the group.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 11 a. m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 315 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg.
