MARILYN GROOTHEDDE

Obituary of MARILYN JOAN GROOTHEDDE

It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Marilyn.

Marilyn was predeceased by her husband Hank Groothedde and her parents William and Ena Currie.

Marilyn leaves behind her best friend and twin sister, Marge Olson, her niece Nancy Olson (Ken), nephew Geoff Olson (Mandy), great nieces Gillian Olson (Nick), and Kennedy Olson, nephew Carl Olson (Lisa) and Carl’s daughter Marlene, stepson, Ron Groothedde (Ann) and many other special cousins and friends.

Marilyn graduated high school from West Kildonan Collegiate and went on to work 23 years for Great West Life. In 1976, Marilyn married Hank, and they enjoyed 39 happy years together. The two of them loved travelling together, visiting places such as the Netherlands, Hawaii, Mexico, and Florida. Before she met Hank, Marilyn and Marge went on girls’ trips to Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and many others. Marilyn’s hobbies included curling, going on walks, as well as cheering on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Marilyn passed away peacefully while holding her sister’s hand at The Arbour’s in Linden Pointe. We would like to thank the nurses and health care aides for their care and compassion.  They treated Marilyn like family.

A cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on a later date.
