Obituary of WILLIAM MCGREGOR (GREG) BYERS

WILLIAM MCGREGOR (GREG) BYERS Suddenly, on Saturday February 23rd, 2013, at his residence at 66 years of age. He leaves his Mother Katherine Byers, wife Sheila Byers, sons Wesley and Craig (Jolene), grandsons Jackson and Barrett, Brother Rob (Marie), sisters Beryl Massey, Laurie Andrews (Tucson), and many nieces and nephews. Greg was born March 31, 1946 in Winnipeg, and grew up in Elmwood where he enjoyed playing hockey, and also developed a passion for hunting and fishing. He became an apprentice electrician and then began working for the Winnipeg Fire Department in 1971. Over the years he had pursued many interesting projects involving a paving stone business, building cabins, remodeling homes and building new homes. In the last few years he spent time making furniture and toys for his precious grandchildren. Greg retired from the Fire Department in January 2000. He was always busy with a project and never at a loss for work. Greg was always a hard working, persistent, self-confident man. He loved to tell jokes and never tired of talking about his experiences at work or reminiscing about our many camping trips with the boys and with friends. Friends and family are invited to join us in celebration of Greg's life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Friday March 1st at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Barbara Roberts officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, a contribution to The Salvation Army would be appreciated.
