Obituary of FRANCES CAROL TAYLOR
FRANCES CAROL TAYLOR
(nee Schmidleitner)
July 5, 1940 – April 24, 2023
Frances passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital on Monday, April 24, 2023 at the age of 82, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was predeceased by her parents Charles & Frances Schmidleitner, and survived by husband Kenneth Joseph Taylor, and four children: Kenneth Jr. and Lori Taylor (Donna/Zach - Riley, Jacob, Vivian, Abagail; Dylan/Jennah), Rob and Sharon Taylor (Sarah/Scott), Michael Taylor and Leanne Doucette (Tia-Rae; Maddyson/Christopher – Elizabeth, Victoria; Brody; Ariana) and Linda and Darrell Rach (Jasmine/Otto - Olivia, Jaxton, Oakley; Jayden; Jordana).
Frances was born and raised in Winnipeg and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1957. She worked part-time at Winnipeg Paint & Glass while in school and her first full time job was with Rodell Corporation Ltd in 1959. Her and Ken met at a dance at Bronx Park in 1957 and were married June 9, 1962. Dancing remained a beloved activity for the two of them that she enjoyed into her late 70s. The first business they ran together was the British American Oil service station on Watt St where Fran did the bookkeeping. They opened Ken’s car clinic in 1970 which was located where the last remaining Video 1001 still stands on Mountain and McGregor, which Ken Jr. still runs to this day.
Along with running thriving businesses, Fran raised four children and was always busy running them to their various sports activities. She was active at North Kildonan community club while the kids were young, where she was the treasurer. She played the organ for Holy Redeemer Parish for decades and was involved in the ladies auxiliary club there as well. In their down time, Fran and Ken enjoyed nearly 50 years together at Hillside Beach Trailer Park, where they made many life-long friends, and were able to enjoy watching their children and even grandchildren also get their own places there, and where great grandchildren also continue to enjoy beach life. They also enjoyed travelling extensively, including months in Mexico, European cruises, and visiting her parents’ homeland, Austria.
