Obituary of REVEREND FATHER WOJCIECH WOJTKOWIAK, OMI
Fr. Wojciech Wojtkowiak OMI was born on February 14, 1944 and passed away on April 14, 2023.
He came from the Oblate parish of Christ the King in Poznan. After entering the novitiate of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, he made his first religious profession on November 1, 1964. During his religious and priestly formation at the Oblate Seminary in Obra, he made his perpetual profession in 1968. He was ordained as a priest on May 23, 1970.
For many years he ministered to many peoples and in many areas of the First Nations in Canada, living amongst them, including with the: Sioux, Assiniboine, Cree. In total, he had 25 communities lying within the Regina diocese under his care. Previously, he served in Polish pastoral ministry in: Toronto, Welland, Ontario, Winnipeg, Manitoba and in the parish of Lestock (Saskatchewan).
Due to age and illness, he took up residence in the Oblate community in Winnipeg where he served until the Lord called him to himself.
Prayers will be said on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue. Rosary will be said on Wednesday, April 19 at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 10:00 a.m. also at Holy Ghost Church. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
