Obituary of JOSE ALVES DE MORAIS
September 2, 1927 – April 8, 2023
Peacefully on Saturday April 8th 2023, Jose A. De Morais passed away at the wonderful age of 95 years.
Left to treasure his memory are his daughter Isabell Demorais Oliveira and son-in-law Paulo; grandchildren Samantha, Mathew and Victoria; nephew and godson Joe Demorais; nieces Maria Do Carmo (Gabriel) of Ontario and Julia (Amancio) of New Jersey; nephews Abundancio and Manuel (Helen) of Portugal. He also leaves to mourn numerous relatives and extended family in Canada, United States and Portugal.
He was predeceased by his parents Avelino and Adilia; sister Isaura; brother-in-law Carlos Castro; brother Antonio; sister-in-law Maria Odete; niece Maria Cristina.
Jose was born in Gondomil, Valença do Minho, Portugal. He went to France in 1957 where he worked on the railroad for a few years and then immigrated to Canada in 1967 to be with his brother making Winnipeg his home. Jose worked in Northern Manitoba for a few years until he found a position working at the Misericordia Hospital for 30 years. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling back to Portugal to spend time with family and friends, working around his house and going to the beach. He was also known for playing the harmonica for his grandchildren. He loved having the whole family at the dinner table and home cooked meals. He liked going for walks and going to The Forks on warm summer afternoons.

Prayers will be said on Friday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin St. N. followed by the celebration of Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
