Obituary of KAREN SANDRA BURNSIDE

May 8, 1942 – March 29, 2023

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Karen Sandra Burnside on Wednesday, March 29th, 2023. Karen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, who will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Wayne;  children: Lisa (spouse Ray, children Matthew, Michaela, Miranda), Sandra (spouse Dave, child Robert), Beverly (children Jesse, Keesic, Raven, Kelly, Thunder).  Karen will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Karen was born and raised on a farm in Shawville, Quebec, married to Wayne in 1963 and later moved to various places throughout Canada, including Kenora, Ontario, Brochet, Manitoba, Shawville, Quebec, Thunder Bay, Ontario, finally settling in Winnipeg in 1981 where she resided for the remainder of her life.

Karen and Wayne were delighted with the birth of their first child Lisa in 1965, followed by Sandra in 1968.  The family lovingly fostered seventeen children. In 1977, the love of their foster child Beverly led to her adoption, becoming a loved daughter to Karen and Wayne and little sister to Lisa and Sandra.

As the kids grew older, Karen gained employment with Seven Oaks School Division, where she was a school bus aid, assisting children with special needs.  Between work and her family and friends, Karen also enjoyed British television comedies, watching hockey and baseball, playing games with family and friends, reading, traveling to visit family in Quebec, Manitoba, and other locations. Karen also enjoyed spending time with her church family at the Central church of Christ.

Karen will be remembered for her unwavering love for her growing family, who brought her the greatest joy in life.  She will truly be missed by each one of them.

Karen’s celebration of life will be held Thursday, April 6th at 1:00 p.m. at the Central church of Christ, 170 St. Mary’s Road, Winnipeg.
