Obituary of ROBERT DOWNES
ROBERT DOWNES (BOB)
1949-2023
Sadly, Bob Downes passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on January 4th, 2023.
He will be mourned by his beloved wife Barb, daughter Sarah (Darin), stepdaughter Carolyn (Dave), stepson Sean (Emily), sister Betty, niece Cathy, nephew Colin (Vanessa) and extended family and friends. He will also be missed by his furry friends Lily and Mia.
He was predeceased by his parents Wilbert and Margaret Downes.
He spent most of his career working as a welder with the Province of Manitoba, Department of Highways. He enjoyed curling, spending time outdoors, camping (especially his campfires), and woodworking. He built many decks, fences and steps for himself and his friends and family. He was particularly close to his camping friends at Wild Oaks Campground. One of his favourite hobbies was attending dog shows, both here and in the USA.
We would like to thank Dr. Macauley, Dr. Kansara (CancerCare Manitoba) and the doctors, nurses and staff on the Palliative Care ward at Riverview Health Centre for their excellent care.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a small gathering and interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
