Obituary of JENNIE MARY SANKOW

Jennie Mary Sankow (nee Ihnat)
April 30, 1932 - December 20, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jennie Mary Sankow on December 20, 2022 at Grace Hospital with family by her side.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 years Albert, daughters Catherine, Jennie (Jim), son Allan, grandchildren Andrea (Robert), Jesse (Sarah), John (Haley), Rawson (Kiana), great-grandchildren Devin, Spencer, Maisie, Eloise, and nephew Walter (Val). She was predeceased by her parents William and Mary, sisters Annie and Katherine and granddaughter Alana.

Mom was born at home and attended Faraday and Isaac Newton schools where she was always a straight A student. She received a scholarship to continue her education but due to family circumstances, started her first job as a stenographer at Sun Life and later worked part time in the credit office of Eaton’s. However, the job she held most dearly was that of a wife, mother and grandmother. She took such pride in her family’s accomplishments. Whether in the stands at a sporting event or cheering from afar, to graduations and marriages, she felt blessed and was so very proud of each and every one of us.

Mom excelled at everything she put her hand to. An excellent cook and fantastic baker, a meticulous sewer and knitter. She had an amazing sense of style and without doubt, she and Dad were the best dressed at any occasion.

After retirement, she and Dad spent many winters in Hawaii, enjoying sunset strolls along the beach. Mom loved doing any type of word puzzle and was an avid reader to the end, often finishing a novel a day.

Mom will be remembered most for her kindness, generosity, friendship, sense of humour and the most uplifting and infectious laugh.

The family would like to thank the staff on Willow unit at Fred Douglas Lodge for their excellent care and friendship and for the compassion they are providing Dad during this difficult time.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held in the Summer.

It was your family that was blessed.

If friends so desire, a donation can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Rest In Eternal Peace
