Obituary of DORIS SKAKUN
DORIS SKAKUN
(NEE OSESKY)
Peacefully just 2 weeks before her 91st birthday, Doris passed away with her
son and daughter in law by her side on Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
Doris was predeceased by her loving husband Harry and numerous family members.
She is survived by her son Brian (Deanna Doran), Grandson Daren, Granddaughter Tracy-lynn, and Great Grandchildren Raymond, Brooke, Savana and Pierson as well as two older sisters, Marj (99), Cay (93) and baby brother Ted (87).
Doris was born in Lennard, Manitoba in 1922 and came to Winnipeg in 1939 where she worked as a housekeeper and nanny. In 1942 she married Harry. Doris
worked in many different jobs until she retired at age 55. She was not
happy staying at home, so she volunteered at Poseidon Care Centre feeding,
telling stories or taking the residents for a walk. She continued going
everyday until Feb. 8, 2013 when she took ill. Doris worked tirelessly at her
church - St. Ivan Suchavsky Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. She spent
most of her spare time helping with all church functions. She was a
founding member of the church perogy club that started in 1967. The last
few years she answered the perogy order phone with a cheery hello for
everyone. Doris was the perogy ambassador and promoted her perogies to
everyone she met. Doris enjoyed performing for any occasion whether it be
a Santa or a clown, she loved being in the spotlight spreading cheer. Doris will be greatly missed.
