Peacefully, on December 1st, with her family by her side, Stacey Skrabek took her last breath after a brief but courageous battle with illness.
She was predeceased by her father, Barry Skrabek, her Baba Helen Skrabek, her Gido Emile Skrabek, her Grandfather Albert Briggs and her special Grandmother Darian Russell. She was also predeceased by her close friend and roommate Lucille Toutant.
She leaves to mourn many, including her grandmother, Doreen Briggs, her mother, Debbie Skrabek, and her husband, Jim Lyons, her brother Charles Skrabek- his wife Jennifer and their children Emerson, Hudson, and Charli, her sister Melissa Skrabek-Senecal, her husband Paul and their children Madelyne, Lilianne and Deveric, her youngest brother, Nicholas Skrabek, his wife Sarah and their son Mason and her godparents Sherri Waluk and Rick Negrych. She also leaves to mourn her roommates Melissa (Mel) and Julie and her beloved cat Marbles, as well as numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Stacy was born in Teulon Manitoba on September 14, 1975. She went on to live and thrive within the remarkable programs and services offered through St. Amant. She was incredibly proud of her graduation from Glenlawn Collegiate in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She spent most of her adult life working with the amazing people at Norshel Centre Inc. She was very proud of her job and all the work friends that she had. Many thanks to all the great people in these programs who helped Stacey reach her potential and create amazing lifelong friendships.
Stacey made an impact wherever she went and left her mark on this world. She was not defined by her disability. She lived a rich and full life. She will always be remembered for her constant happiness, her smile, her sense of humor, and her laugh!
To know her was to love her.
The family would like to thank the many support workers (both via St Amant and Norshel) that helped Stacey live a full life. It is impossible to thank you all, but we thank each and every one of you for the love and care that you gave to Stacey like she was one of your own. You will all be forever in our hearts. To Kelly and Tanya, you not only be will be forever in our hearts and forever part of our family. Thank you for all the extra care over and above and for truly deeply loving and caring for Stacey. Thank you for all you do and for being there with us to support Stacey until the end.
A special thank you to all her friends that she made during her time with us. You helped to make her feel special and brought her happiness. Again, it is impossible to thank you all, as Stacey had so many friends, but a special thank you to Leo, Penny, Jessica, Peaches, Oliver, Shane, and her longest friendship with her former roommate Flo. Theirs was a special relationship that stood the test of time and will always warm the hearts of those that knew them.
Stacey loved all things, especially if they were pink. Please think of her every time you add some pink to your life. Life is better in pink!
The funeral service will be celebrated at St. Timothy s Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Road, Winnipeg on December 14 at 11:00am, with a small dedication to Stacey to start just prior to the service. If it pleases you please wear something pink to honor her on this day.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating funds in her name to Norshel to help provide support to this great organization. (http://www.norshel.mb.ca/)
