REV. KENNETH INNES

Obituary of REV. KENNETH INNES

REVEREND KENNETH ALEXANDER INNES It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rev. Ken Innes on February 7, 2013 at the age of 70 years. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Carole; son Troy Innes and his wife Stephanie along with their daughters, Inara and Kalie; son Ryan Innes; sister Donna Jean Innes; brother Edward Innes; brother Grant (Anne) Innes; sister Maxine (Don) Holbrough and many nieces and nephews (along with their children). Ken was predeceased by his father Burns in 1989 and his mother Florence in 2000. Ken grew up on the family dairy farm in Oxford County, Ontario. He attended elementary school at S.S. No. 7 and high school at Stratford Central Secondary School. During his time at Waterloo Lutheran University, Ken felt called to enter the ministry. He answered God’s call by attending Knox College in Toronto, graduating in 1969 and being ordained into the Presbyterian Church of Canada. Ken began his ministry at the four-point charge of Wanham, Belloy, Brownvale, and Dixonville (Alberta) in 1969. During this time he met his wife, Carole, and they were married in 1972. After realignment, Ken served at Wanham and Blueberry Mountain until 1975. From Alberta, Ken and Carole moved to Brussels/Belgrave in Ontario where they remained until 1983 when, along with their two young sons (Troy and Ryan), they made their final move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to answer the call to St. John’s Presbyterian Church. Ken remained in this position until his retirement from St. John’s in 2004. Ken’s love of life led him to enjoy a variety of pastimes including curling, plowing, travelling, gardening, model railroading, collecting toy tractors, playing the bagpipes, baseball, hockey, golf, as well as many other activities. Ken believed in a broad definition of "family" that included his friends, neighbours, and church congregation. Above all else, Ken lived his life to glorify God. A celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Monday, February 11, at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Avenue at 2:00 p.m. A committal service will be held on Tuesday, February 12, at Fairmount Cemetery (North of Minnedosa) at 12:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s memory may be made to St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Avenue.
