Obituary of MAUREEN ALISON TAYS
MAUREEN ALISON TAYS
March 19th, 1945 - November 19th, 2022
Maureen passed away peacefully the evening of Nov. 19 at River East Personal Care Home. She was 77.
Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Maureen grew up on the family farm in Mercer Settlement. One of eight siblings, she was the wild child of the family — a rebel, a freethinker, a woman who spoke her mind.
Maureen worked for several years as a telex operator at Northern Sales. A single mother, she was very proud of her daughter’s achievements as an academic, musician and film director. Maureen loved cats and had many dear animal companions over the years.
Loyal and generous, Maureen made friends easily. She loved to give thoughtful gifts, even when she had very little money. She had a beautiful singing voice and often led family sing-a-longs with her acoustic guitar. She was a great storyteller and wrote poetry and long letters.
Maureen is survived by her daughter Danishka, her sisters Carole, Myrna, Sheryl and Linda, her brother Brian and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she adored. She was predeceased by her brothers Dale and Kenny and her ex-husband and friend Michael Klymenko.
A memorial service and reception will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, November 28 at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. A family gathering and interment will take place in the spring at Titus Hill Cemetery in New Brunswick.
Maureen loved daisies and yellow roses. She would love for you to donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society to help stray cats.
